Amaro Don Carlo di Eboli is among the winners of Great Taste 2025, an accreditation scheme for food and drink products from over 100 countries worldwide.
Yesterday, the Guild of Fine Food published the eagerly awaited results of the ‘stars’ awarded to those businesses that have distinguished themselves in their sector for their quality.
With a particular focus on small artisan producers, the programme takes a closer look at everything from cheese to cured meats, pasta to honey, chocolate to coffee, and beer to spirits (with the exception of wine). This year, for the first time in the event’s thirty-year history, the judging of Italian products took place directly in Italy.
An international panel of experts, following a blind tasting, drew up a report assigning each entry a score ranging from ‘not awarded’ to 3 stars.
Taste, appearance, aroma, texture, mouthfeel, the characteristics of the raw ingredients and originality are some of the factors under scrutiny.
There was great satisfaction with the judges’ description of Amaro Don Carlo, which did justice to the quality of this artisanal product and the tremendous work carried out over the years by Carlo Gargiulo and Angela Caliendo of the Gargiulo wine shop in Eboli: “Well-made and authentic, it is a drink with a pleasant flavour which, unlike many types of Amaro, does not taste overly medicinal, something we greatly appreciated (…) This product does exactly what it set out to do: the bitters pair beautifully with walnuts”.
The next date to note in your diary for this competition is 9 September in London, when the highest-scoring Italian entries will be in the running to win the Great Taste Golden Fork.
