More awards for Amaro Don Carlo: a Gold Medal at the Women’s International Trophy and a Silver Medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition
Amaro Don Carlo has received another major award from Mainz, a city in central-western Germany and the country’s wine capital: a Gold Medal at the latest edition of the Women’s International Trophy 2025.
An all-female international panel comprising 58 expert female tasters tasted and assessed, in a blind tasting using a scoring grid based on the sensory analysis criteria of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), no fewer than 885 samples from all over the world across the three competition categories: wines, beers, and spirits and spirits, awarding prizes to 286 of them, 271 of which received a gold medal.
Sommeliers, oenologists, winegrowers and distillers are just some of the many faces of the multifaceted and complex world of wine, which is increasingly taking on a feminine character thanks to the leading role played by women at every stage of the sector, from production and tasting to purchasing decisions.
“Deep brown in colour, the inviting aroma reveals hints of stone fruit, liquorice and burnt orange, accompanied by notes of hazelnut and coffee. On the palate, it offers a balanced sweet-bitter profile with herbaceous notes and subtle spices, finishing with a warm, bittersweet aftertaste”: this is the tasting note with which Amaro Don Carlo was awarded its latest accolade, the silver medal (90 points out of 100) at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, an international competition dedicated to the world of wine and spirits.
Experts from over thirty countries have judged the spirits in the competition, staying true to the spirit of the event, which aims to be more than just a competition; rather, it seeks to foster a genuine community built around the value of people and their expertise.
Amaro Don Carlo is a sweet and elegant artisanal amaro, born from the idea and vision of Angela Caliendo and her husband Carlo Gargiulo, who have been running the family wine shop in Eboli with professionalism and passion for many years.
