Gargiulo Coloniali of Eboli has achieved a significant national milestone: last Saturday, 1 March, the company received a Special Mention in the Liqueur category for its Amaro Don Carlo at the third edition of the Italy Food Awards – often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of the Italian food and drink industry – an initiative conceived and organised by journalist Donato Ala Giordano.
The awards ceremony, held at Villa ReNoir in Legnano (Milan), brought together representatives from many leading Italian companies.
Amaro Don Carlo, a delightful and elegant liqueur, is made from walnut husks (60%) and a blend of herbs and spices selected according to a formula devised by Angela Caliendo and Carlo Gargiulo, who run Enoteca Gargiulo, founded in 1966 by their father Vito in Eboli, in the province of Salerno.
Amaro Don Carlo has recently been relaunched with a new label and a change to the recipe, involving a reduction in sugar content to further enhance its aroma and flavour.
‘We have been rewarded for our perseverance, tenacity and the many sacrifices and investments made over the years,’ said Carlo Gargiulo, owner of Gargiulo Coloniali, who added: ‘We have come a long way, but our aim is to continue, with enthusiasm and dedication, to improve ever further, with a view to producing a product of the highest quality and distinct identity.’
